📖 ABOUT THE TRADITION:
The gragger is a traditional Purim noisemaker used during the reading of Megillat Esther (Book of Esther). When Haman's name is mentioned, the congregation makes noise to symbolically "blot out" his name - fulfilling the commandment to erase the memory of Amalek.
The Hebrew word "ra'ashan" (רעשן) comes from "ra'ash" (רעש) meaning "noise" - and making joyful noise is what Purim is all about!
